In addition, this catalogue contains a timeline of LAMA’s beginnings as an auction house and previous sales. Multiple copies are available.
The October 17, 2010 Modern Art & Design Auction was LAMA's 50th auction since opening in 1992, and was proof of LAMA's dedication over the past two decades to offering the best modern material available on the market. The auction totaled .6 million (including buyer's premium) selling 69% of the 509 lots offered.
LAMA offered a strong selection of fine art including an original work by Pablo Picasso, Woman with Flowery Hat ( Lot 332 est. ,000 - 15,000, realized ,662), rare David Hockney lithographs, and at least five iconic Andy Warhol prints. Also, a collection of five Natzler ceramics traded hands for the first time since original purchase in the 1950s. One of these, a very large exhibition piece bearing the desirable volcanic glaze (Lot 426 est. ,000 - 25,000), realized ,318.
The auction brought together an assortment of high quality 20th century modern fine art, furniture, design, and decorative objects, many of which never traded hands until Sunday. A large number of offerings were from original owners and estates. Among the highlights were Andy Warhol's Mao (Lot 310 est. ,000 - 40,000, realized ,750), Diego Rivera's Stone Cutter (Lot 210 est. ,000 - 40,000, realized ,750), a William "Billy" Haines Lanai Couch (Lot 93 est. ,000 - 30,000, realized ,725), and an Alberto Giacometti Bronze Lamp (Lot 410 est. ,000 - 10,000, realized, ,562).
